Volunteer Chair for York Unlocked

What will you be doing?

York Unlocked started in Jan 2022 and became a CIO in Feb 2023. We've been very successful and have enormous potential to grow. Our current Chair is our founder and feels someone better suited should take on the role. Our board is a mix of people new to being trustees plus some recently added highly experienced trustees (governance, finance & fundraising). It's a friendly team. Most of the people that work within the charity are volunteers (we recently got some funding to add a part-time admin resource)

What are we looking for?

Experience of managing meetings, motivating people, and representing an organisation to City of York opinion formers and influencers.  We aim for "professional but light touch" so being able to "balance" board skills and styles will be important. Applicants must have previous experience as a trustee of a charity. Applicants will need to live in York or very close by and will need to attend community meetings or events relating to tourism, heritage, built environment, local government and relevant voluntary sector events and build relationships with like-minded organisations.

What difference will you make?

The Chair will help us manage our rapid growth, ensure we stay true to our mission and harness the enthusiasm and experience of a diverse board.  They will oversee us transitioning from a tiny start up charity to a serious force within the York cultural & heritage sector.
