What will you be doing?
The trust is a charity in its 50th year and has played a vital role in North-East brass banding throughout its existence. As well as masterclasses, bursaries and workshops the trust has led popular and ambitious projects which promote brass banding more generally such as The Durham Hymns. The current board of trustees intend to step down at this November’s Annual General Meeting which raises important questions about the NRBBT’s future. We are hosting a meeting in September for individuals who are passionate about the future of banding in the North East will to step forward with fresh input and ideas. You don't have to play an instrument or be associated with a brass band to help. The role of a trustee means spending half-a-day per month (on average) on charity business including:
Helping to plan and run meetings Helping with annual charity reporting Supporting good governance Promoting brass banding participation opportunities Supporting projects and activities which bring brass music to the widest possible audiences
A range of roles are available including: Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary but we would also like to hear from people who would be interested in joining the board without a defined role. The meeting takes place on Saturday 7 September at 10am at the Robin Todd Centre, South Hetton. DH6 2TH
What are we looking for?
Skills:
Strategic Thinking: The ability to contribute to the Trust's long-term planning, ensuring that decisions align with our mission to sustain and develop brass band music in the north of England. Financial Acumen: Understanding of financial management, budgeting, and fundraising is crucial to ensuring the Trust's sustainability and effective allocation of resources. Governance and Leadership: Experience in governance or leadership roles within organisations, particularly in the charitable or non-profit sector, to help guide the Trust's operations and compliance with legal requirements. Project Management: Experience in overseeing projects, from planning to execution, ensuring that initiatives like education programmes, performances, and commissioning new works are successfully implemented.
Experience:
Music or Arts Background: Experience in the music industry, arts administration, or a related field is highly valuable, particularly if it involves working with brass bands or community music groups. Fundraising and Development: Experience in fundraising, donor relations, or sponsorship development, which is essential for securing the resources needed to support the Trust's activities. Community Engagement: Experience working within or with communities, particularly in cultural or educational contexts, to help build and sustain relationships that are vital to the Trust’s work. Non-Profit or Charity Sector Experience: Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities facing non-profit organisations, particularly in the cultural or arts sector.

Commitment to the Cause: Dedication to the mission of the NRBBT, with the time and energy to contribute actively to board meetings, committees, and Trust activities.
