Join the Criminal Justice Hub to make a meaningful impact by designing content that empowers individuals and communities to navigate and have a voice in the criminal justice system in England and Wales. We’re looking for a content designer who can craft clear, accessible, and user-centered digital resources that address the needs of diverse audiences, including those directly impacted by the justice system. What will you do? As a volunteer content designer, you will:
Create, review, and improve digital content to ensure clarity, accessibility, and usability. Work collaboratively with researchers, service designers, and stakeholders to develop content that supports user needs. Use user insights, data, and feedback to evaluate existing content and inform improvements. Prototype new content ideas, testing them to ensure they meet user and stakeholder requirements. Ensure content aligns with the Criminal Justice Hub’s mission, style guidelines, and tone of voice.
What are the key deliverables? Your work will directly contribute to the Criminal Justice Hub’s goal of making the justice system more accessible and understandable for all. Deliverables include:
User-centered content that explains complex processes in plain language. Prototypes or drafts of new resources or tools. Regular updates to existing content to improve its clarity and relevance. Collaboration and input into the broader content strategy of the Hub.

Content Design Expertise: Experience creating, editing, and publishing digital content that is clear, concise, and user-focused. Plain Language Skills: Ability to translate complex concepts into plain language, ensuring accessibility and understanding for a diverse audience. Accessibility Knowledge: Understanding of accessibility standards and the ability to design content that works with assistive technologies. User-Centered Approach: Experience using data, user research, and feedback to inform and improve content. Digital Tools: Familiarity with content management systems, digital publishing processes, and prototyping tools.
Desirable Skills and Experience
Criminal Justice Insight: An understanding of the criminal justice system, or experience working with advocacy, legal, or government services. Agile Working: Experience working in an Agile environment, collaborating on iterative improvements and adapting to changing priorities. Prototyping and Testing: Familiarity with prototyping techniques, such as sketches or wireframes, to test and iterate content ideas.
