Role Summary

The Role The National Art Library (NAL) at the V&A is Britain’s foremost research and reference library on art and design, open to all. It also holds the V&A’s curatorial collections of the art and design of the book. We are seeking a suitably qualified Assistant Librarian to cover maternity leave. The post is based in the NAL’s Collections and Content team where the core duties are the selection, processing and cataloguing of new acquisitions. Specific duties of this post will include the training and supervision of volunteers and non-professional staff adding records to the library catalogue. All Assistant Librarians contribute to the delivery of onsite and online services and regular public outreach activities.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable interest in and knowledge of the subjects covered by the Museum’s and the Library’s collections. They will be an efficient, results-oriented individual, meticulous, with a keen attention to detail. They will be able to demonstrate an aptitude for MARC cataloguing as well as excellent inter-personal and customer services skills, including public presentation. They should also be confident working in a digital environment and have an interest in the application of library management systems.
