Overview:
Planet Patrol is seeking a dynamic and creative professional to elevate our brand and advocacy work across multiple channels. As the Integrated Marketing & Communications Manager, you will be the strategic and creative force behind our marketing, communications, and digital campaigns. You will serve as the ultimate sign-off point for all external-facing materials - ranging from press releases and website content to social media, newsletters, and reports - ensuring consistent messaging and brand integrity.
In this role, you will not only lead a talented team of freelancers but also manage external agencies to maximise opportunities for paid campaigns, influencer outreach, and content creation. Budgets aren’t huge, so you’ll need to understand how to get maximum impact for minimum cost. If you’re passionate about environmental advocacy, have a knack for storytelling, and thrive in a collaborative start-up environment, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
- Marketing & Communications Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that supports our key campaigns and brand vision, including social media.
- Write compelling press releases and strategic communications materials that elevate our mission and drive media interest.
- Digital & Content Oversight:
- Oversee our digital agency to manage paid advertising and influencer outreach, ensuring campaigns are timely and on-message.
- Develop social media plans that align with campaign messaging and timings and execute campaigns with the support from freelancers and/or volunteers. Create content to drive increased engagement with the public, and analyse campaign performance.
- Supervise the Web Manager to ensure the website is continuously updated and reflective of current campaigns, with proficiency in Canva considered a plus.
- Sign off on the creative aspects of the Planet Patrol app when updates and new features are integrated, ensuring consistency with our brand identity.
- Content Creation & Editorial Management:
- Lead the creation of a strategic newsletter using tools such as Campaign Monitor, progressively profiling and segmenting our audience.
- Generate regular blog content for the website that aligns with Planet Patrol’s programmes, community initiatives, and campaigns, optimised for SEO.
- Proofread and refine reports, proposals, and other strategic documents to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Brand & Advocacy:
- Act as the brand guardian for Planet Patrol, ensuring all external communications, partner channels, and touchpoints consistently reflect our brand identity.
- Develop and nurture relationships with media, influencers, and brands to amplify our voice and secure high-profile opportunities.
- Represent Planet Patrol at events, capturing and leveraging content across social platforms to enhance our public profile.
- Get quotes and work with suppliers to order branded kit—including flags, banners, printed materials—and sign these off to ensure they meet our quality and branding standards.
- Business Development & Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with the Partnership Manager and Head of Programmes & Campaigns to create marketing messages and campaigns that attract new funding and sponsorships for Planet Patrol.
- Lead on award submissions and seek pro bono PR and social media support, when appropriate, to boost our resources and outreach.
Role Requirements:
- Significant experience in a marketing/communications role with a demonstrated track record in campaign development and digital strategy.
- Proven record of managing and growing social media platforms with demonstrated success in increasing audience engagement, reach, and brand awareness through strategic content and community management.
- Exceptional copywriting, editorial, and proofreading skills with a creative mindset.
- Proven ability to manage and inspire a diverse team, including freelancers and external agencies.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships across various channels.
- Hands-on experience with digital marketing tools and technologies (SEO, Social Media, Google Analytics, Campaign Monitor, Adobe Suite, Canva).
- In-depth knowledge of media and marketing legislation, copyright law, GDPR, and the Fundraising Regulator.
- Passion for the environment, the importance of data-driven advocacy, and a commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion.
- Legal right to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.

About Planet Patrol:
Our vision is a world where all beings can enjoy our waterways, free from pollution. We are a global community dedicated to placing people-powered environmental data at the heart of decision-making. Through our unique anywhere, anytime, anybody approach to citizen science, we gather critical evidence of water and litter pollution to drive solutions that protect both environmental and human health. Our data and citizen science methods have been featured in academic journals (Stanton, et al., 2022) and media investigations (Channel 4 and ITV), enhancing public and scientific knowledge of litter pollution.
