Wilderway
Wilderway is working to deliver investable nature restoration, by developing landscape ecosystem restoration projects aligned with rewilding principles, financed through the sale of high quality, high integrity carbon and nature credits. Our pipeline is strong, with projects at various stages of development - from feasibility studies, land contracting and carbon and nature credit development, right through to contracting multiple (corporate) credit buyers. We work with experienced local partners who are specialised in delivering nature restoration on the ground.
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Carbon & Nature Modeller to identify, develop and manage carbon models for our projects across different habitats, standards and methodologies.
Role
The Carbon & Nature Modeller will be responsible for the 1) identification and analysis of carbon standards and methodologies from a scientific perspective, and 2) the development and management of carbon models for forest and peatland restoration and conservation projects. They will also play a central role in the development of biodiversity indicators and will lead the development and application of monitoring protocols and monitoring campaigns in WW carbon projects.
The Carbon & Nature Modeller will report to the Finance and Operations Director (in the future the Lead Scientist) and will work in close collaboration with the Head of Credit Development and the credit developers in WW team.
Main responsibilities
Carbon Modelling
- Collaborating with colleagues across Wilderway to implement nature restoration projects across Europe.
- Review and identify the most suitable Standards and methodologies from a scientific perspective with the WW Credit Developers.
- Develop carbon models according to the most relevant forest (IFM, ARR) and peatland standards and methodologies.
- Operate the carbon models, reviewing and identifying relevant data sources from peer-reviewed literature to produce GHG reduction and removal projections for WW’s projects and pipeline.
Nature credits
- Provide support for the development of indicators related to the development of nature credits aligned to different standards and methodologies.
Monitoring
- Develop monitoring protocols according to the relevant carbon standards .
- Support during the monitoring campaigns according to the monitoring protocols developed.
- Analyze monitoring data and write relevant monitoring reports.
Knowledge and Experience
- Passionate about Wilderway’s mission, vision and objectives.
- Dedicated to make a difference for nature restoration, with a commercial mindset.
- Master's degree or above in a relevant discipline.
- At least three years of professional experience in carbon modeling in the context of the Voluntary Carbon Market.
- Ecological knowledge and experience across habitats (peatlands, forests, mosaics).
- Expertise in using GIS / remote sensing, R & python.
- Expertise in ecological modelling systems considered a plus.
- Professional and hands-on approach, motivated professional and go-getter.
- Ability to transfer science into practice.
Requirements
- Location: based in The Netherlands or UK (in proximity to London), with travel flexibility across Europe as required.
- Permit to work in UK or Europe required.
