Role Summary
- Organise and conduct community outreach programmes including, but not limited to, bug hunts, educational activities, and arts.
- Act as a spokesperson representing the wildlife site.
- Engage and empower local communities with an objective to elevate their understanding of, and interest in, the local wildlife and environmental issues.
Role Requirements
- Must possess extensive ecological knowledge and a thorough understanding of conservation issues.
- Experience in organising and executing outreach events to engage a broad spectrum of audiences.
- Previous experience in raising public awareness on wildlife and environmental matters.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience in report writing and developing online resources.
- Ability to collaborate with other organisations and strong computer literacy skills, including the usage of internet, email, Microsoft Office, and Excel.
- Potent organisational skills and capacity to plan and prioritise tasks efficiently.
- Social media proficiency and a full, current driving licence are mandatory.
Buglife is recruiting a Community Warden for Canvey Wick, a former oil refinery that has been reclaimed by nature. This incredible site is now home to thousands of species including the Shrill Carder Bee, Nightingale and Scarce Emerald Damselfly. Working with our partners, the RSPB and the Land Trust, you will be at the heart of reconnecting the local community with this amazing wildlife site.
The role entails organising community outreach events (like bug hunts, walks, themes educational activities, citizen science, and arts and crafts) and being a spokesperson for one of the most fascinating wildlife sites in the UK. We are looking for someone who has experience in outreach and engagement, and empowering communities. You’ll know and will have examples of where you’ve worked with different audiences and be able to show how you’ve raised awareness of wildlife and environmental issues before.

We are working hard to achieve this through: Promoting the environmental importance of invertebrates and raising awareness about the challenges to their survival. Assisting in the development of legislation and policy that will ensure the conservation of invertebrates. Developing and disseminating knowledge about how to conserve invertebrates. Encouraging and supporting invertebrate conservation initiatives by other organisations in the UK, Europe and worldwide. Undertaking practical conservation projects that will contribute to achieving our aim.
