Role Summary

  • Coordinate and implement international sustainability projects, including a specific project across Asia and the Pacific from 2025–2026.
  • Work both independently and within teams for the effective delivery of project objectives, including planning, execution, and performance tracking.
  • Oversee procurement and contract management, and manage project cycles including timelines, budgeting, reporting, and stakeholder communication.
  • Contribute actively to fundraising efforts.

Role Requirements

  • 3–5 years of professional experience in international sustainability-related project coordination.
  • Demonstrated project management, and strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Fluency in English and the willingness to travel internationally and adapt to flexible work environments is required. Knowledge of additional languages such as Mandarin, Spanish, French is an asset.

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network working with more than 2500 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. We are active in 125+ countries, influencing sustainability policy and driving local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability. The World Secretariat is based in Bonn, Germany.

The role of the Project Officer will involve coordinating and implementing international sustainability projects, including the Kaohsiung - ICLEI Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Community of Practice with 15 selected cities from across Asia and the Pacific 2025–2026. You will work independently as well as collaboratively across teams to ensure the timely and effective delivery of project objectives. This includes leading the planning, execution, and performance tracking of the Project tasks, overseeing procurement processes and contract management, managing the project cycle including timelines, budgeting, reporting, and stakeholder communication, and contributing to fundraising efforts.

Job requirements include a minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in international sustainability-related project coordination, demonstrated project management skills, experience working across multidisciplinary and multicultural teams, strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, fluency in English, and willingness to travel internationally and adapt to flexible work environments. Additional languages (e.g. Mandarin, Spanish, French) are an asset.

The position will be available as of 1 July 2025. The employment contract is based on German law including visa/work permit. Working hours are 40 per week (full time), with paid leave of 30 days per year. The working language is English.
