Role Summary

  • Perform research, documentation and increase the public accessibility of Nile valley collections, specifically from Sudan and Nubia
  • Contribute to the Museum’s Masterplan and Operation Plan
  • Improve digital accessibility of collections on the Museum's online platforms

Role Requirements

  • A BA/BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
  • Experience in documentation within the relevant field
  • Expertise in the archaeology of Nile Valley, Nubia, and Sudan
  • Experience with a relevant collection, museum documentation, and museum databases
  • Management experience (people, projects, budgets) is desirable

Eligibility

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. Sponsorship is only available for a limited number of roles that meet the eligibility criteria and salary threshold of £38,700 or the job's going rate, whichever is higher.

The British Museum, founded in 1753, is a leading visitor attraction with a remarkable collection spanning over two million years of human history and culture. Our world-famous collection includes the Rosetta Stone, Egyptian mummies, the Sutton-Hoo finds, and the Lewis Chessmen. We also hold an extensive collection of prints and drawings spanning 600 years, including works by the greatest graphic artists Dürer, Michelangelo and Rembrandt.

The role of Project Curator: Sudan and Nubia involves undertaking research into, documenting, and making publicly accessible the Nile valley collections, particularly archaeological collections from Sudan and Nubia, in support of the Museum’s masterplan, the Museum Operating Plan and all relevant Museum strategies. The role also involves improving their accessibility via the Museum’s digital online platforms.

Job requirements include a BA/BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, experience of documentation, some expertise in the archaeology of the Nile valley, Nubia and Sudan, and some experience of working with a relevant collection, museum documentation and museum databases. Some experience of management issues (people, projects, budgets) is desirable.
