Role Summary

  • Leading the culture and team engagement by promoting positive culture, open communication, psychological safety and wellbeing within the team.
  • Develop and implement people strategies and operational processes for the entire team to nurture a highly motivated team.
  • Oversee the end-to-end people process from recruitment, onboarding, performance management, to offboarding.
  • Ensure HR policies and procedures are compliant with employment laws, HR best practices and safeguarding standards.

Role Requirements

  • Should have CIPD Level 5 qualification and 5+ years of people leadership experience and leadership in HR function within a small team environment.
  • Knowledge of UK's employment law and HR best practices, Google workplace, and digital systems.
  • A deep interest in workplace equity, diversity, inclusion, and empathy for working in a mission-driven environment.
  • Experience in charity or social enterprise models, understanding of hospitality operations, and DBS enhanced checked will be a plus.

As our People & Culture Manager, you will play a pivotal role to nurture and shape the soul of Fair Shot — our people. This role encompasses both strategic and operational responsibilities, and is a chance to build and lead a values-driven culture. You will champion the employee experience across the organisation, supporting professional growth, fostering open communication, and ensuring everyone feels heard, valued, and respected.

Culture & Team Engagement

- Lead efforts to shape and nurture a positive, inclusive organisational culture aligned with Fair Shot’s mission and values.

- Embed our organisational values in internal communications, behaviours and engagement initiatives while ensuring alignment with external comms around Fair Shot values.

- Foster an environment where team members feel heard, supported and celebrated, and are ready for open communication and continuous feedback.

- Design and lead initiatives that promote wellbeing, psychological safety, and meaningful recognition.

People Strategy & Operations

- Develop and implement people strategies and frameworks tailored to a growing social enterprise, with the goal to develop a motivated team that thrives across functions.

- Oversee end-to-end people process for our cross-functional team and volunteers, supporting hiring managers to uphold a high standard from recruitment, onboarding, performance management, to offboarding.

- Identify learning opportunities across roles, provide tools and frameworks for continuous development.

- Cultivate leadership by providing expert advice on employee relations, performance management, and disciplinary matters, and support clear team expectations of responsibilities across functions.

- Facilitate a cohesive work place and encourage productive collaboration and our commitment to our mission.

HR Compliance

- Ensure policies and procedures are in compliance with employment laws, HR best practices and safeguarding standards.

- Develop people initiatives that are reflective of our commitment to disability equality.

Experience and skills

Essential

● CIPD Level 5 qualification

● 5 years of people leadership experience

● Proven leadership in a standalone HR function in a small team environment

● Strong understanding of UK employment law and HR best practices

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

● Confident with Google workplace and general digital systems

● Empathy and passion for working in a mission-driven, inclusive environment

● Genuine interest in workplace equity, diversity, and inclusion

● Strong initiative for creating impact through your work

Nice to have

● Experience working in or with charities or social enterprise models.

● A good understanding of hospitality operations.
