What will you be doing?

The Volunteer Training Co-Facilitator supports the delivery of the Breaking the Fear for Survivors programme by providing technical, organisational, and in-session support to the Lead Facilitator. This role is essential in ensuring sessions run smoothly, participants feel safe and supported, and the programme is delivered in line with trauma-informed and survivor-centred principles.

FLAG DV is a specialist domestic abuse charity supporting survivors to make informed, safe choices through free and confidential family law advice, court support, and training across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Hampshire. Our survivor-led, trauma-informed approach helps reduce fear, increase understanding, and build confidence for survivors accessing the Family Court.

As a Volunteer Training Co-Facilitator, you will help us reach more survivors by supporting the delivery of a four-session online workshop to small groups of up to eight participants. You will work closely with the Lead Facilitator to support survivors through the Family Court process by helping create a safe, well-structured, and supportive learning environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing organisational and technical support before and during sessions to ensure smooth delivery
  • Sending session links and joining information to participants in advance
  • Managing admissions to Microsoft Teams sessions and supporting the use of breakout rooms
  • Assisting the Facilitator with screen-sharing, slides, videos, and course materials
  • Offering real-time IT and delivery support during sessions as needed

You will also play an important role in supporting participant wellbeing. This includes observing engagement during sessions, being alert to signs of distress, and offering appropriate welfare check-ins where needed, always in line with safeguarding guidance and trauma-informed practice.

While the Lead Facilitator delivers the core content, you will contribute to creating a calm, respectful, and supportive space that enables survivors to feel heard, informed, and empowered. There may also be opportunities to co-deliver elements of sessions, where appropriate and if desired, with support and guidance provided.

This role is well-suited to someone with strong IT, organisational, and communication skills, who is confident using online platforms, attentive to detail, and committed to supporting survivors with empathy, professionalism, and care.

We are looking for someone who has 3 years of experience of using IT to ensure that the sessions are well supported by the co-facilitator

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for volunteers who are calm, reliable, and compassionate, with strong communication and organisational skills. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Teams, email, and PowerPoint, and comfortable supporting online sessions to run smoothly.

You will have at least 3 years of experience in using IT to ensure that the sessions are well supported and run smoothly.

You’ll ideally have some understanding of domestic abuse and its impacts, including post-separation abuse, and bring a trauma-informed, survivor-centred approach to group work. You’ll be able to listen actively, communicate clearly and inclusively, and respond with empathy and without judgment. Maintaining professional boundaries while remaining warm, supportive, and reassuring is essential, particularly in emotive situations.

You’ll work well as part of a collaborative team and be emotionally aware and sensitive to participants’ needs. A strong commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion, confidentiality, and survivor safety is vital, alongside a willingness to engage in training, supervision, and reflective practice in line with FLAG DV’s values.

Desirable experience includes knowledge of the Family Court system and survivor rights (training provided), experience supporting survivors or contributing to group-based or training delivery, and an interest in developing facilitation skills.

Lived experience of domestic abuse may be a valuable asset, but is not essential. Disclosure is entirely optional and will never be requested. Any shared lived experience will be respected and supported within a safe and confidential framework.

What difference will you make?

As a Volunteer Training Co-Facilitator, you will play a key role in improving the well-being, resilience, confidence, and knowledge of survivors facing Family Court, often as a result of post-separation abuse.

The Breaking the Fear workshops are empowering and transformative. Survivors consistently tell us they discover inner strength they didn’t know they had and feel better prepared to navigate what can be months or even years of legal proceedings.

By volunteering as a Co-Facilitator, you will help FLAG DV deliver this vital support to survivors across the Thames Valley and Hampshire, directly contributing to their safety, understanding, and empowerment.

Anything else...

Programmes run on Tuesday evenings or Thursday daytime, giving survivors choice and Co-Facilitators flexibility of which programme they commit to deliver. The four sessions are delivered at the same day & time for continuity.
