What will you be doing?

We are recruiting one or more Community Outreach Volunteers in the London boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster and Hammersmith & Fulham to support our marketing effort in these areas.

You will be an essential link between our central staff team and these communities, helping us understand and reach local communities to ensure (1) that individuals who could benefit from our services know how to access them, and (2) that we are able to build relationships with local individuals and organisations who wish to support our work.

You will use your marketing, campaigning and networking skills for the following tasks:

Community engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with local organisations, charities, community groups, faith groups, and others
  • Identify opportunities to promote our counselling services through existing networks and connections within the area
  • Attend local community events, fairs, and networking meetings to represent the charity and distribute information

Information and Promotion

  • Distribute marketing materials including leaflets, posters, and business cards in appropriate locations across the area
  • Deliver brief presentations or talks to community groups about our services (training and materials provided)
  • Share information about our services through local social media groups and community notice boards

Liaison and Communication

  • Signpost enquiries about accessing counselling services to the central team
  • Provide regular updates to the CEO/Marketing Lead about outreach activities, opportunities identified, and materials needed
  • Maintain accurate records of organisations contacted and materials distributed

Awareness and Feedback

  • Stay informed about local community needs and barriers to accessing mental health support
  • Share insights and feedback from the community with the central team to help improve service accessibility
  • Contribute to the design of local marketing campaigns, using your knowledge of the area and target communities

What are we looking for?

Essential requirements:

  1. Must live in, work in, or have extensive knowledge of and networks within at least one of these London boroughs: Kensington & Chelsea, Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham
  2. At least 3 years’ experience working in marketing, communications, campaigning, fundraising, events management or a similar role
  3. Confident, articulate communicator who can represent the charity professionally to diverse audiences

  4. Willing to engage with a variety of organisations and community groups in person and remotely
  5. Reliable, organised, and able to manage own schedule with minimal supervision
  6. Passion for mental health awareness and reducing stigma around accessing counselling
  7. Basic IT skills including email and ability to use simple online record-keeping systems
  8. Commitment to upholding the charity’s values and maintaining confidentiality

Desirable:

  1. Understanding of mental health issues and the barriers people face in accessing support
  2. Existing connections with local community organisations, charities, or groups
  3. Experience of delivering presentations or public speaking
  4. Knowledge of the local area’s demographics, health inequalities, and community needs
  5. Professional or lived experience of counselling services would be an advantage

What difference will you make?

The Community Outreach Volunteer(s) will play a vital role in raising awareness of our counselling services across the three London boroughs where we primarily operate.

You will be the charity’s local ambassador, linking the community with our services and ensuring those most in need are aware and able to access them.  This will make a huge difference to those in the community who experience barriers to mental health services - whether through lack of awareness, cost, language or cultural sensitivities. Our service is designed to remove these barriers and ensure that affordable counselling services are available to all regardless of income, background, or where they live.

Your community outreach work will also help us forge relationships with local charities, community organisations and other networks. This is valuable both in promoting our services and reaching those in need, but also in reaching supporters and donors.  As a small charity, it is essential to have community support for the work we do.

This is a hands-on, rewarding role working in the heart of the community. You can help us ensure those in need can access quality, affordable mental health support which for many can be a lifeline.

Anything else...

The work is flexible depending on the need of the community and the preferences of the volunteer. Could include weekends although not essential.
