What will you be doing?

Are you a legal, governance or compliance professional looking to use your expertise to make a lasting difference to communities across Lancashire?

This is a great opportunity to use your professional skills at strategic level, helping to ensure our charity remains well governed, compliant and able to continue delivering vital services to communities across the county.

As a trustee, you’ll play an important role in shaping the future direction of Community Futures. You’ll help oversee governance, manage risk and ensure the organisation continues to operate safely, ethically and effectively.

Operating a rural charity presents a diverse range of governance and compliance challenges, from supporting highly regulated early years services to managing community assets and partnership agreements. Your expertise will help the Board make informed decisions and provide confidence that the organisation is meetings its legal and regulatory responsibilities.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a Trustee to join our Board, that has:

  • Experience of charity governance, board-level decision making or strategic leadership
  • A background in law, governance, compliance, HR, risk management or a related profession
  • An understanding of governance framework and risk management
  • The confidence to provide constructive challenge and independent judgement

What you’ll do:

  • Provide guidance to the board and ensuring compliance with appropriate regulatory bodies.
  • Review institutional risks, including safeguarding policies, data protection (GDPR), and employment law frameworks
  • Provide strategic oversight contracts, service level agreements (SLA’s) and property leases for our community spaces

What difference will you make?

The purpose of the charity, as stated in the governing document, is to: 'Promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the communities in the County of Lancashire and elsewhere (hereinafter called the area of benefit) primarily but not exclusively by the advancement of education, research, development and training, the protection and enhancement of the environment, the preservation of good health, the relief of sickness and relief of those in necessitous circumstances.'

As a Trustee with legal, governance or compliance expertise, you’ll help safeguard the long-term future of the organisation, ensuring that we continue to operate with strong governance, effective risk management and robust regulatory compliance.

Your contribution will support the work we deliver across Lancashire, helping rural communities thrive, enabling local organisations to succeed and ensuring that vulnerable residents continue to receive support.

You will join an experienced and welcoming Board that works closely with the management team. Trustees are encouraged to contribute their expertise, ask questions and provide support within a collaborative and friendly environment.
