The role
The Associate role is a varied and dynamic position where the individual will be staffed on supporting two of the existing investment vehicles managed by ThirdWay Partners. This includes the ThirdWay Africa Rural Development Corporation (www.thirdwayrdc.com).
Main duties and responsibilities
The Associate will be responsible for execution of management activities for the firm’s managed investment vehicles on the African continent. This will include:
- Providing ongoing strategic support to the leadership teams of the vehicles; assisting them to assess the asset status, needs, risks, goals and progress
- Fostering and maintaining positive client relationships
- Managing the end-to-end execution of fundraising processes; including assisting in the creation of complex financial models, presentations and other marketing materials for managed vehicles
- Managing compliance and governance work streams, leveraging internal legal resources for support
- Overseeing the coordination of board meetings and preparation of reporting materials; including supporting the leadership teams in generating financial statements, business activity reports and forecasts, and other asset management reports
- Ensuring that investor reporting obligations are fulfilled; as well as fostering and maintaining positive investor relationships on an ongoing basis
- Undertaking sector and region-specific research into relevant financial products, legislation and regulatory requirements and successfully and succinctly communicating to relevant stakeholders
- Explaining the benefits of the third way of conducting business to fulfil the firm’s mission with internal and external stakeholders
- Managing, and supporting the professional development, of junior colleagues both those staffed on the managed vehicles and within the broader context of the firm
- Contributing to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Essential skills
- At least an undergraduate degree from a reputable institution in the field of business, finance and/or economics, with strong academic credentials
- A minimum of 4 years of experience working in a merchant bank or private equity firm
- Strong project management capabilities with experience in handling multi-stakeholder collaborations
- Strong quantitative and analytical competency with experience creating extensive financial models, comprehensive investor memorandums, and presentations
- Preferably, previous knowledge of the Sub-Saharan African business context; but with a high-level of comfort working in a multi-jurisdictional environment
- Experience with governance/compliance management will be valuable
- High level of proactivity, accountability and energy; with strong abilities to work independently as well as within a team
- Ability to communicate fluently in oral and written English and Portuguese
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills; and the ability to present complex information simply
- Excellent people manager; open to direction and committed to collaboration and getting the job done
