The Role

This is an incredible chance for an economist with policy development experience to shape the future of our planet. We are the first generation to know we are destroying the world, and we could be the last that can do anything about it. As a Senior Sustainable Economic Policy Advisor / Economist for the world’s leading independent conservation organisation, you will help us save our planet by providing the evidence, arguments and solutions that will influence policy makers and businesses into adopting sustainable economic models and practices.

Achieving a net zero, nature positive economy, will be a critical determinant of our collective success or failure to save the planet. As a Senior Sustainable Economic Policy Advisor / Economist with WWF UK, you will be developing groundbreaking solutions and policy approaches to tackling the biggest challenges we face. You will be focused on policy development, including exploring and developing solutions, designing and prototyping policy approaches and influencing implementation.

About You

Important will be the ability to work with colleagues to establish key areas of focus where economic policy levers might effectively create positive environmental change, and particularly to identify the most impactful systemic changes I.e. changes to the rules of the game that will incentivise sustainable decision-making across the entire economy. You will also collaborate with Senior Policy Advisors to look at the role of finance, climate and food production and consumption, and design new policy that shifts the economy to deliver sustainable outcomes.

This will involve conducting and commissioning researchproducing technical reports, documents and briefings. You will also lead engagement with stakeholders, including relevant civil servants at HM Treasury and BEIS, and technical experts to support the process of developing and influencing policy. We will look to you to maintain a strategic and politically relevant oversight of relevant economic policy issues, and provide analysis of policy news and debates.

Ideally an economics graduate, you will have worked in economic policy and analysis. This will have given you policy development and implementation experience. You will also have a good understanding of how policy is influenced, both inside and outside Government. An experienced researcher, you can identify key or underlying issues in complex situations. You will possess strong relationship building and communications skills too. Experience of managing consultancy projects would also be useful.
