ABOUT THE BUSINESS

We are a small, independent map publishing business that aims to inspire great adventures, liven up walls and put enormous grins on faces. Our folded, flat and framed maps entertain and inspire people to explore Britain’s best bits. The business was founded in 2014 with the launch of a (useless) map of Britain's funny place names. We now cover a wide range of topics and are proud to supply our maps to the Ordnance Survey, among others. We’re an environmentally responsible business (see our annual impact report here), we support three fantastic British environmental charities (Trees for Life, Surfers Against Sewage and the John Muir Trust), we’re an ‘Escape the City Top 100’ employer and we’re a certified B Corporation (since November 2021).

We're committed to diversity, equality and inclusion. Our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire, develop and promote great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. In our quest to entertain and inspire people to explore Britain’s best bits, we’re building a culture where difference is valued. Come and be part of our adventure!

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for an ambitious, customer-focused digital marketing professional to help us improve our performance across the digital channel mix as we look to continue growing our business. There will be an opportunity to make an immediate impact, but also learn and have fun while building your knowledge across the sales and marketing mix. The role offers a huge amount of variety, while your outputs will create genuinely exciting and heart-warming experiences for a highly engaged customer base. It’s flexible too, and likewise will suit someone who’s flexible, interested in all aspects of the business and all aspects of marketing for a content-rich, largely online / e-commerce business.

ABOUT YOU

You'll have good commercial experience in optimising digital channel performance and an entrepreneurial, creative mindset. You’ll be driven, helpful, keen to achieve results, with strong communication skills. You’ll also be able to learn and adapt quickly and (of course!) be collaborative and fun to work with. Extra points for loving travel and adventure around Britain (and chuckling at funny place names).

RESPONSIBILITIES

Initial expectations (there is some flexibility and a chance to broaden the role and develop your skills as you go)…

  • Managing inbound channels to drive traffic to the site including paid social media ads, search ads and email marketing
  • Reporting on digital channel activity, sharing actionable data insights and recommendations with the team
  • Ensuring the optimisation of messaging across different marketing channels and on-site, including ads, landing pages, emails and more

  • Budget management and forecasting on channel performance and profitability
  • Collaborating with sales, design, content and product team members to devise innovative new ideas
  • Developing an e-commerce customer experience that makes people smile, and optimises our pages, CRO programme and SEO initiatives
  • Updating content, pages and products on-site where required
  • Developing and communicating market and customer research, market knowledge/trends and best practice with the wider team
  • And most importantly, being a key part of a small but ambitious team and helping get the building blocks in place for longer-term growth and success

REQUIREMENTS

In addition to a good level of skills and experience in the above areas...

  • Commercial focus and a record of growing channels
  • Experience managing social media marketing (ideally across both paid ads and organic audience-building, although the focus for this role is predominantly on paid)
  • Customer focus and continuous customer experience improvement
  • Analytical and inquisitive mindset, and a general love of metrics and data
  • Experience with content management and e-commerce systems (we use Squarespace)
  • Experience in SEO and search engine marketing
  • Google Analytics knowledge
  • Email marketing knowledge
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS is desirable
  • Basic knowledge of tag management is desirable
  • Basic knowledge of or interest in environmental responsibility
  • Good strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • A growth mindset and commitment to self-development
  • Organisation, positivity and a sense of fun

WHAT WE’RE OFFERING

  • Competitive basic pay, annual bonus and potential for participation in our equity scheme within 12 months (possibility of initial freelance stint before converting to employee role)
  • 25 days holiday plus an additional day for each year worked, up to 30 days
  • Pension and private health insurance
  • Full support, including dedicated budget, for your learning and development
  • Flexible hours and location, along with regular contact and team meetings (usually London) / gatherings in nice parts of the country
  • GB travel, books & films budget and other top perks

Application instructions: Please include a short CV, a brief covering note summarising (1) why you're applying and what you'd bring to the party, (2) the top 3 things you look for in an employer / team / work environment and (3) 3 good questions for us. (We like 3s). Succinct is good!
