Breaking Barriers

We are Breaking Barriers. Our mission is to help people from a refugee background acquire the knowledge, confidence, and experience to get stable, fulfilling employment in their new home. We believe that every person from a refugee background can fulfil their potential and integrate into their new home through employment that matches their skills, experience, and aspirations.

We are a team of around 60 employees, supported by hundreds of volunteers, who are committed to helping the refugee community. We concentrate on getting things done in flexible environment where everyone is encouraged to take ownership and contribute.

This is a brand-new, stand-alone role, so it’s essential that we hire the right person to help at this important stage in our journey, to support our current and future employees through each stage of their career with us.

This means you will get to shape initiatives that will have the biggest impact for our employees, and by extension help the refugees we support,

such as:

  • Building our Learning and Development strategy and developing our approach to talent and skills development
  • Evolving our hiring and on-boarding approach to ensure that we have access to – and grow and retain - the best available talent to support our community
  • Co-creating our Diversity and Inclusion strategy, and overseeing and tracking its delivery
  • Managing of our HR systems to help improve engagement, recognition, and provide employee benefits.
  • Being a point of contact for staff, providing advice on areas such as staff wellbeing, performance, and policies.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Hands-on generalist HR background, including demonstrable experience of hiring, on-boarding, L&D, engagement and D&I (and CIPD Level 3 + is a bonus)
  • Purpose led, empathetic and passionate about helping others
  • Ability to create places of work that are inclusive, welcoming and engaging
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving and relationship focussed
  • Bold approach to getting things done and a proactive attitude
  • A commitment to working with people from a refugee background.

Applications close on Tuesday 24th May. We will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis so please apply early to avoid disappointment.

Breaking Barriers particularly welcomes applicants with experience of migration and/or a refugee background.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation, or age.

We are open to flexible working arrangements and alternative working patterns.
