Job Outline:
We are looking for a pro-active and organised Paralegal to join our Compliance team.
As a Paralegal in the Compliance team at Crowdcube you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of funding rounds, as well as other corporate transactions and compliance matters. This is the opportunity to play a vital role within our experienced Compliance team and develop in-depth knowledge of the equity crowdfunding industry in one of the UK's leading FinTech startups.
This role is ideally based in our Exeter or London office and there will be a requirement to be in the office a minimum of 1 day per week.
Crowdcube is a regulated business and so the Compliance function is an integral part of what we do. As a Paralegal, reporting into the in-house Legal Counsel, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our due diligence checks on entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses that come to Crowdcube are thorough and accurate, and that the overall corporate structure of the funding round is appropriate within our risk matrix. We will provide training and set you up for success; as your knowledge and skills develop, you will gradually take on more responsibilities.
Day to day you will be:
Reviewing corporate transaction documentation with the support of other lawyers and providing feedback or reporting to the wider company
Conducting due diligence on Companies raising on Crowdcube
Supporting the team on responding to internal legal and compliance queries
Collaborating with other teams and entrepreneurs around compliance matters
Helping to drive operational efficiencies and best practice as we scale
Independently reviewing ancillary investment documentation against established criteria
Reviewing legal document translations
Ideally you will have:
A law degree, Graduate Diploma in Law or equivalent qualifications. An LPC is not essential but would be helpful
At least one year’s experience reviewing general corporate transactional documentation and/or general contracts. This is ideally within a corporate environment or an Investment firm operating in a similar field to Crowdcube (though this is not essential)
Experience with Seed investment rounds for SME companies or EIS investment rounds would be beneficial but is not essential
Fluency in English and preferably another language to mother tongue standard (though this is not essential)
Demonstrable experience of multitasking, prioritising your workload and meeting deadlines

Our interview process typically consists of an initial phone screen, an interview with the hiring manager and a task, followed by a final interview with other members of the team. There aren't any trick questions and the task will typically be based on a real scenario the team have worked on.
