A Little About The Job
At Ooni, we are committed to using business as a force for good. We’re beyond just ‘being less bad’ - we want the world to have great pizza and we want to do it in a way that leaves our planet in a better place for future generations. After all, we only have 1 planet to make pizza on, and we believe in our responsibility to protect and restore it through delivering a positive impact.
We believe becoming a regenerative business can power our growth, and that symbiotically, our growth can power us delivering a regenerative business. That’s where YOU come in. This newly created role will lead our ever-growing Impact Agenda, and report directly to the CEO. With a dedicated team of 3, the Head of Regenerative Business will be responsible for both our environmental and social sustainability, to ensure Ooni pizzas can be enjoyed for generations to come!
About You
You’re probably frustrated in your current role - you’ve heard ‘yes, but…’ too many times, even as our planetary emergency screams in our ears.
You’re already familiar with circular economy thinking. You’re likely a fan of Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics. Maybe you’ve read Daniel Wahl’s Designing Regenerative Cultures, or Flourish: Design Paradigms for Our Planetary Emergency by Sarah Ichioka and Michael Pawlyn. By the time you come for an interview you should certainly be familiar with the work of the New Citizenship Foundation (if you’re not already).
We’re not joking. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to help create a new template for how business engages with the world. As a fast growing, multi-million pound business we are at the scale where what we do matters and we’re ready to take action!
You’ll be used to working at a high level. You’ll be a respected sustainability expert. You’ll be itching to do it properly. You’ll be able to get your hands dirty and make things happen.
We are under no illusions about the challenge ahead for a company of our nature - and you will relish that challenge and be capable of taking it with both hands and running.
Oh, and you’ll love pizza. Obvs.
You will
- Lead our charge to become a regenerative business. You’ll lead the team to devise a strategic plan to make this a reality. And you’ll execute that plan, with a commitment from our founder shareholders to make it happen.
- Spearhead our Carbon Footprint reporting, and build and execute plans to reduce our impact as a priority where possible, and develop plans for offset of the remaining emissions. As part of this, you’ll work with our Product Development and Operations teams to create and deliver robust plans, processes and practices for reducing the environmental impact of all of Ooni’s operations, including reviewing Life Cycle Assessments, supporting them to increase the durability and repairability of our products to minimise impact.
- Manage the Ooni Impact Fund, which donates at least 1% of our annual revenue to good causes, continuing to ensure we create the most impactful impact.
- Create and analyse annual reporting on our sustainability across the business into meaningful and impactful information for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Build on our current impact policy and continue to find new ways to embed sustainability in to our business operations.
- Ensure we are compliant with any core legislative obligations and look for new best practice approaches.
- Work with our Supply Chain to ensure that our full supply chain is treated in an ethical manner, through a robust supplier audit program.
- Working closely with the Marketing team to produce communications both internally and externally telling Ooni’s story of using business as a force for good in a transparent, honest manner, that is a proud source of truth rather than corporate green-washing of the facts.
- Source and champion opportunities to embed ourselves within our communities, including through sharing information openly to inspire other businesses to make positive changes.
It is essential that you:
- Can demonstrate significant experience in a Sustainability Management role, with responsibility for both environmental and social sustainability, in a business that has made a difference.
- Have a strong understanding of the legislative landscape around environmental and social responsibilities, and how they impact on business responsibilities.
- Have experience of measuring carbon footprints and implementing reduction and offset strategies.
- Have excellent relationship building skills, impress us with your network of connections and how you build these both internally and externally.
- Can use those relationship building skills to get internal stakeholders excited and mobilised on sustainability initiatives.
- Are creative and have a hands-on approach to problem solving - we like out of the box thinking!
- Can demonstrate successful project management of sustainability initiatives (showing great leadership, communication, integrity and senior stakeholder management).
- Have excellent analytical skills.
- Have a genuine and compelling passion for great pizza.
- Demonstrate Ooni’s company values: Passion, Rigour, Innovation, Ambition and Kindness.
It would also be really nice if you:
- Had experience in regenerative business practices
- Had experience working within sustainability for a consumer goods company
