Join Oak National Academy as they are looking for a Head of Finance

We are looking for a brilliant accountant who wants to help every part of Oak deliver on its mission whilst maximising tax payer value for money.

You will join our Operations team but be working across Oak and across partners and government to ensure we are fully compliant, financially sound and that we support all of our colleagues to achieve the highest quality standards for all our users.

Responsibilities

  • Protecting and supporting the Accounting Officer, ensuring appropriate regularity, propriety and stewardship in line with the Nolan principles of public life and the requirements set out in Managing Public Money.

  • Providing consistent, accurate and relevant financial monitoring, forecasts and value-added analysis to Ministers, the Department for Education, HM Treasury, Oak Board, Senior Leadership Team and budget holders to support better management of resources and more effective decision making.

  • Responsible for taking decisions and making recommendations on all aspects of the organisation's finances. 

  • Develop and manage a high performing finance department, leveraging internal and/or external relationships.

  • Responsible for all decisions relating to the performance and function of the finance department.

  • Maintain specialist expertise in managing public finance  and be the authority across Oak and more widely across the sector.

  • As a member of the leadership team, contribute to the strategy, planning and model the culture of the organisation.

  • Work in cross-functional and product oriented squads with colleagues from across the organisation, as required.

  • Deputise for the Operations Director and take on other general responsibilities as required.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • 5+ years holding responsibility for finance processes/systems across an organisation.

  • Experience of recruiting, developing and managing a high performing department.

  • Experience of managing a 7 figure budget.

  • Qualified Accountant (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA).

  • Highly effective track record of interpreting financial information to help shape and influence organisational strategy.

  • Extensive experience of communicating complex financial information in a clear and concise way.

  • Excellent data modelling skills.

The successful candidate will have a desire to contribute in all areas to ensure Oak is successful. You will be comfortable working at pace and you will continuously look at ways that the team can work more smartly. You will be excellent at working as part of a remote team, building relationships and managing your time effectively.
