Could you be our next Sense Seeker?

Clever Together is looking to hire one or more analysts to support its growing number of exciting projects and clients. We are looking for people who enjoy making sense of large amounts of information and working with qualitative and quantitative datasets (with an emphasis on the former) to turn them into meaningful and useful insights for our clients that would form the basis of strategies for change.

We are open to applicants seeking full time or flexible working arrangements.

Clever Together is unlike any other consultancy. We work in the space of crowdsourcing and co-operative inquiry, where our approach is to conduct research ‘with’ rather than ‘on’ people, fully acknowledging their vested interests in improvement and the development of solutions. We give our clients the ability to listen to the voice of thousands of people and channel this voice to develop strategies to transform workplaces, innovate and shape organisational culture and values, or address issues that truly reflect the needs and expectations of the people affected.

Role: Sense Seeker (Qualitative analyst)

Salary range:£35,000-£45,000 depending on experience

Hours of work: This is a full-time position, but we are open to applicants seeking flexible working arrangements

Period of appointment: Permanent position (subject to 6 months’ probation)

Place of work: We are open to remote applicants (applicants from the European Union), and you are welcome to work from any location you like. Most of us work remotely and collaboratively with our team, which currently distributed between the UK, Bulgaria, and France. For non-UK residents, occasional travel within the UK will be required for “team days”. We maintain a small office in Central London which you would be welcome to use.

About us

At Clever Together, we help people to understand and solve truly complex issues, to develop effective policy by seeking input rather than seeking agreement, and to co-create new visions and strategies with organisations’ people and stakeholders.

We help organisations and institutions tap into the collective intelligence of people and to evolve through the inclusion of all voices in meaningful conversations about change.

We do this by using a suite of methods tailored to our clients' needs, including our proprietary online crowdsourcing methodology and technology to gather and analyse qualitative research data at scale and at pace. The fact that our online conversations are anonymous is particularly useful in ensuring ideas can be shared freely.

Our clients are public health bodies, educational institutions, city councils, and a growing base of private sector organisations who we feel can be a positive platform for change.

We are a small team of people spread across the UK and Europe, working in a supportive, truly human culture of trust and autonomy where everyone is encouraged to be creative, explore their talents and pursue new opportunities for the organisation.

About the role

A typical project for us involves designing and delivering large-scale online conversations – a web-based workshop-type engagement where thousands of people reply to one or more open-ended questions in free text and then comment and vote on the responses.

A typical analysis for us includes:

  • Doing deep, 360-degree desk-research to provide a baseline understanding of an issue we would be engaging on.
  • Thematically codifying data, either against an agreed framework or from the ground up, to identify the key themes and sentiment of the conversation.
  • Analysing codified and weighed data (written ideas and comments, votes) to understand which themes have strongest support.
  • Analysing participation and gateway data to understand how representative the engaged audience is of the invited population.
  • Writing reports - summarising codified data and analytical insights; visualising findings; constructing a narrative to present to our clients; drafting recommendations based on the data

As you settle into this role, you will have the opportunity to feed into project design and help shape campaigns and questions to be more amenable to rapid analysis.

About you

We are looking for people who share our purpose, vision and values. We want to talk to you if:

  • You subscribe to the ideal of a humane world where people have a real say in the change that happens around them and care about empowering individuals and making organisations more democratic
  • You love making sense of large quantities of information and working with data to extract actionable insights
  • You are autonomous and take initiative to explore projects in creative ways
  • You value high quality work and are committed to delivering excellent outputs, consistently
  • You are brave – to speak up when needed, to do the right thing even when it’s hard, to challenge convention if necessary, to take initiative, to be honest and willing to try new things.
  • You are rigorous – to push beyond initial assumptions, to seek multiple perspectives and to prioritise data, evidence and logic over dogma, politics or ideology.
  • You are playful – to stay curious, to change your mind, to experiment and to embrace new challenges and ideas.
  • You are embracing of difference – to recognise and accept the human in your colleagues and customers, to disagree respectfully, to honour differences and seek to maintain a safe space for people to share their views.
  • You are collaborative – to work with others towards shared outcomes, to know when to work alone and when to involve others, to maintain your boundaries and understand your limitations.
  • You like small teams and non-corporate structures
  • You are inquisitive, analytical, and a problem solver

Required skills

  • Experience with analysing qualitative and quantitative datasets, especially the former.
  • Understanding of research principles, methodologies, and best practice
  • Ability to interpret large datasets, identify patterns and trends, summarise information, organise and write reports
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present the findings of your analysis in a concise and engaging way
  • Experience in doing desk research to gain an understanding of a problem or issue
  • Researcher or data analyst experience or qualifications are an advantage
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel is an advantage
  • Experience in working with UK healthcare or public sector is an advantage
  • Background in (academic) research desired but not essential
