Lead Engineer - Focus Analytics (Early stage, VC Backed startup)

Amidst the unyielding – and necessary – pressure for businesses of all sizes to be more data-driven, the data analytics market is growing around over 30% annually, and is forecast to be worth around $350 billion by 2030.

Companies in all sectors are hiring data science teams to boost their performance, but Focus is attempting to offer similar expert-level insights to early stage companies who can’t yet invest in data scientists through its automated analytics platform.

Crucially, the platform also has an AI advisor which suggests actionable steps to take – a feature which could help Focus stand out in a crowded market.

The team

Focus is only at the beginning of its journey having launched in late 2022, but its product is an exciting one, and founder William McCabe has a strong track record, having previously seen success as Head of Growth at Koinly and a Co-founder at Olivia.

Responsibilities

Define technical requirements and systems architecture, determining the right balance between scale and speed of delivery for early product iterations. To be the driving force behind the platform development; managing the technical delivery and release of the product/platform to meet targets/delivery milestones. Collaborate on and drive the technical roadmap, including tech-driven initiatives that will make the development process easier and more enjoyable. Communicate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner to non-technical stakeholders/team members. Determine the best time to scale engineering org to meet ambitious product goals and identify the key positions needed to create an A+ team. This includes involvement in interviewing, hiring, and onboarding process for all engineering positions when appropriate.  Lead core engineering teams and collaborate with product and technical leadership to ship the next evolution of the Focus  platform.

Experience

3+ years of experience as an engineering lead/full stack engineer, building scalable software solutions in tech businesses. Experience and understanding of applicable programming languages that allow shipping a complete product (such as Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, Vue, React/React Native, Angular, PostgreSQL, PHP, RESTful, AWS and Web APIs in general). Working knowledge of developing tech infrastructure built for speed and scalability.  Confident in leading code reviews, product planning and execution, leading technical implementation and architecture discussions. Experience supporting the effective development of other engineers through coaching, mentoring or collaboration.

Bonus

Successful track record hiring and growing engineers across front-end and back-end teams. Experience working with marketing analytic data stacks. Experience building connections to primary marketing channel APIs.
