Nesta was originally funded by a £250 million endowment from the UK National Lottery.

We back new ideas to tackle the big challenges of our time, from the pressures of an ageing population to stretched public services and a fast changing jobs market. Using our knowledge, networks, funding and skills, we work hard to see new opportunities and challenges; spark creative answers from many sources; shape brilliant ideas into practical solutions; and then shift whole systems in a new direction.

We believe that innovation - the creation and adoption of new ideas - is the key to human progress, prosperity and happiness. But too often innovation doesn't back the things that really matter to people. We want to make innovation work for everyone - growing new ideas that tackle the challenges our society faces and change the world for the better.
