Job title: Head of Green Cover

Contract: Permanent

Salary: £43,000 per annum (FTE)

Working hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Location: Work from home, must be UK based

Benefits: 32 days paid annual leave, including public holidays per annum (FTE), flexible working and TreeSisters operates a discretionary wellness scheme which currently offers six wellness days (FTE) pro-rata per annum. 

About the Role

As Head of Green Cover, you will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the organisation's charitable object(s), which involves being responsible for our Green Cover strategy and overseeing our Green cover department. 

The Green Cover Strategy focuses on uplifting and empowering communities to lead the restoration of their landscapes, particularly supporting biocultural approaches and women's empowerment. 

The Head of Green Cover will oversee our restoration activities, monitor the portfolio of reforestation projects and be responsible for our strategic direction within Green Cover. They ensure that we act ethically, being led by communities and nature, and that gender equality and women's empowerment are integrated into the Green Cover programme. They will be responsible for the implementation of processes and procedures to ensure the effective running of the Green Cover team and will assist with the assessment of new projects, working closely with the Tree Partnerships Manager.

Core accountabilities of the role

  • Strategic Direction You will lead the implementation of our Green Cover strategy (with support from a valued Consultant), focusing on community-led biocultural landscape restoration projects and women’s empowerment. In collaboration with others, you will also support the overall Organisational strategy. 
  • Green Cover Operations - You will implement processes and procedures where necessary to improve the efficiency of the Green Cover team and ensure we are audit-ready and compliant. You will also develop projects, assess risks and report on findings. You will provide subject matter expert support to planting partners.
  • Lead our Green Cover department - You will be responsible for the line management of the Green Cover team and overseeing the budget. You will collaborate with the Head of Finance to assign funding and contribute to Marketing activity. You will work with the Head of People to manage volunteers supporting TreeSisters Green Cover activities. 
  • Build relationships - You will build respective and supportive relationships and connections with reforestation partners and respect original/indigenous peoples' protocols and cultural sensitivities. You will work closely with the Education team and speak on behalf of TreeSisters at events.  


The ideal candidate 

You have in-depth, broad knowledge and experience within the environmental sector, particularly in reforestation. You are self-motivated and thrive in a globally distributed, virtual team. You are a people person with strong collaboration, communication, organisation and interpersonal skills. You love the natural world and want to contribute to our vision to ethically expand the green cover of our world.
