What will you be doing?
Eighteen months after the fall of Kabul, activists and charities have been calling on the government to honour pledges made to help resettle Afghan refugees fleeing the Taliban. Many had risked their lives working alongside British Armed Forces as translators and local staff. But as the nation’s focus shifted towards the Ukrainian situation and media interest waned, their plight has been neglected. As of November 2022, over 9000 Afghans remain in temporary “bridging” accommodation such as hotels, significantly more than those that have secured long term accommodation. The government has committed to process new arrivals but these resettlement schemes have been criticised as being “underfunded, flawed and poorly planned” and without a coherent housing strategy. Chiltern Welcomes hopes to bridge this gap at a local level; not just for Afghans but those in similar predicament from Syria and other areas. We are delighted to announce that we have been granted Charity Commission approval. We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to coordinate fundraising to support our efforts. #LI-Remote
What are we looking for?
Experienced fundraiser and team player. An interest in migrants and refugees. Ideally you would be familiar to or resident in the Chiltern area but this is not a requirement.
What difference will you make?
An experienced fundraiser is vital to the success of the organisation. We would be delighted for that person to be part of our diverse team of Trustees to be on board at the start of this exciting journey together. However, we are also open to those that are only able to commit for a short term project to help us for the initial launch.
