Role Summary:

  • Oversee EHS Operations alongside Policy, Risk, and Compliance teams.
  • Report to the Head of EHS with direct line management responsibilities.

Role Requirements:

  • Degree level education with a NEBOSH Diploma or relevant postgraduate diploma.
  • Membership with IOSH and/or IFE/IFSM is ideal.
  • Proven EHS Management experience, preferably in heritage or visitor attractions.
  • Skilled in developing policies, audit programs, and contractor management arrangements.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and team and budget management abilities.
  • Knowledge of construction, design management, fire safety regulations, and permit to work processes.

About the role: The British Museum is looking for an experienced EHS Manager to join the newly created EHS team within the Estates and Capital Projects department. The role will oversee the EHS Operations and Policy, Risk and Compliance teams. Directly reporting to the Head of EHS, they will have line management responsibility for the Control of Works Supervisor, the Health and Safety Manager and the Senior Fire Safety Manager. The role is responsible for ensuring the Museum’s Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policies and management arrangements are implemented and audited consistently across the organisation.

Job requirements: Educated to degree level, you should have a NEBOSH Diploma or Occupational Health and Safety or Fire Engineering postgraduate diploma, and ideally be an IOSH and/or IFE/IFSM member. You should have demonstrable experience as an Environment, Health and Safety Manager, ideally within a heritage or large visitor attraction organisation, including experience of developing policies and procedures and health and safety management systems, establishing audit programmes and developing contractor management arrangements. You should have outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills, as well as a good working knowledge of Construction and Design Management and fire safety regulatory requirements and permit to work processes. Experience of managing teams and budgets is also a key requirement for this role.
