MISSION TO METRICS
The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop and scale technologies to rid the world's oceans of plastic. To achieve our mission, we need to deploy our systems successfully. The Logistics Manager will have succeeded when our supply chain activities are running smoothly.

Key Deliverables & Outcomes:

  • Developing and implementing a strategic logistics plan focused on transportation/warehousing aligned with the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Establishing key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of logistics strategies and third-party performance
  • Monitoring market trends and third-party capabilities to identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborations
  • Efficient coordination of inbound and outbound logistics activities
  • Optimal warehouse set-up and inventory management
  • Timely order fulfillment and accurate inventory tracking
  • Collaboration with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure smooth operations
  • Continuous improvement of logistics and warehouse processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and drive the implementation of a strategic logistics plan for the respective portfolio
  • Develop ideas to simplify and standardize shipment requests
  • Create and drive strategy implementation of and improvements within the defined logistics portfolio
  • Draft and execute initiatives in the area of process definition, digitalization of logistics, improved ways of working and performance measurement
  • Execute the global transportation plan to drive optimal customer service and key metrics (on-time delivery, CO2 reduction, technical productivity initiatives, enhanced and optimized network design, reduced damages, and claims)
  • Arranging required logistics operations, including import/export clearance
  • Ensure transport costs and efficiency while improving our sustainable footprint
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess both internal and external performance and implement improvements
  • Proper creation of necessary logistics documents for transport, including the usage of Incoterms, customs requirements, HS codes, etc 
  • Leading the Chain of Custody process from a logistics perspective. Drive improvement of and compliance with mission-critical and high-risk processes
  • Arranging empty container availability 
  • Arranging truck moves 
  • Securing vessel space/booking 
  • Support arranging cargo insurance 
  • Part/total charter of vessels and/or flights 
  • Liaising with freight forwarder for courier/LCL moves 
  • Arranging consolidated shipments and deliveries via warehousing options globally  
  • Support all logistic-related activities for port calls: transport order consolidation with our logistic partners both locally and internationally 
  • Resolve any arising problems or complaints  
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess both internal and external performance and implement improvements 
  • Support contract negotiations with partners and suppliers to already address agreed Incoterms, clearance handling, etc. 

Proper creation of necessary logistics documents for transport, including: 

  • the usage of Incoterms, customs requirements, HS codes, etc 
  • Invoices/packing lists 
  • Purchase Orders and invoices  
  • Regular contact with project teams
  • Building up Logistics Knowledge within the business teams of The Ocean Cleanup 
  • Challenge air freight vs. ocean freight vs. truck vs. courier moves 
  • Support negotiating contracts with partners and suppliers to address INCOterms, clearance handling, etc. 

Responsible for inventory and warehousing :

  • Ensure efficient spend management for warehousing and set up a global warehouse strategy 
  • Implement inventory tracking systems to provide accurate real-time data on stock levels 
  • Implement inventory control policies in accordance with the Chain of Custody and procedures to reduce shrinkage, damage, and theft. 
  • Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile variances. 
  • Ensure accurate documentation and labeling of all inventory items. 
  • Establish a global warehouse strategy 
  • Keep track of quality, quantity, and stock level 
  • Support arranging warehousing insurance 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS  

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as supply chain or a related field 
  • 5-10 years of experience in Logistics and Supply Chain 
  • Experience in transportation, especially importing and exporting outside of the EU 
  • Excellent English language skills (including written) and Dutch language skills would be preferred 
  • Experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and digital logistics and inventory solutions

  • Work permit: A valid European Union work permit is highly preferred for this position. The role is based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands;
