What will you be doing?
You will work with our Publicity organiser to identify the best means of advertising to attract the volunteers we need. You will be part of a committed and enthusiastic Management team, each handling specific roles e.g. Fundraiser, Safeguarding Champion, Treasurer, Literacy Specialist. You will oversee the process of recruitment, interviewing and vetting future team member as well as helping us maintaining a flow of volunteer coaches to match with readers. You will help to ensure that appropriate induction is provided and that volunteers are supported and valued and able to feedback. We are affiliated to National Read Easy which provides Team Handbooks and a suite of policies and procedures to support the role including a firm commitment to equality and diversity. We also have access to support from a Regional Adviser.
What are we looking for?
Experience of interviewing and working with volunteers Good communication and people skills with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality The confidence to promote the work of Read Easy and a strong commitment to improving the lives of people who struggle with reading. Ability to use own initiative and work independently A non-judgemental attitude and respect for others with a commitment to equality and diversity so that you can make everyone feel valued and included Energy and enthusiasm with an average of 2-3 hours/week to commit to the role. Familiarity with Sheffield and it's communities is desirable
What difference will you make?
A flow of able, committed volunteers is essential to the smooth-running of our organisation. We are young (established Oct 2021) and you can help us to grow to reach the maximum number of adults in Sheffield who can benefit from our support. We currently have 10 active reading pairs with a lot of potential to build from there.
