What it’s like working at Skills Builder Partnership

Joining Skills Builder is not like working anywhere else. Our team consistently say they have never worked anywhere as collaborative, supportive or mission oriented. We combine the fun and dynamism of a start-up, the professional development opportunities of a corporate, and the social impact focus of a charity.

We are serious about delivering social mobility through our vision that one day everyone builds the essential skills to succeed. That means we are ambitious and set high standards for ourselves. We are reflective, inclusive, and supportive.

In practice this means that everyone makes time for others in the team, we get stuck in to solve problems together, we have regular employee surveys where leadership talk through every single suggestion and the whole team is involved in developing our strategy.

About the role

This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual who wants to drive real, systemic change in the UK’s approach to education and lifelong skills development.

You’ll be building off strong foundations: a fantastic team with strong team leaders; financial stability; brilliant board and advisory groups; and a role at the heart of a movement for essential skills that brings together more than 900 impressive organisations.

In this role, you’ll be working to shape and deliver our strategy to transform how the UK builds essential skills by building relationships with government, leading organisations, and making sure that the Skills Builder approach is central to how the education and training system evolves. You will balance the influence with commercial acumen and the drive to build the organisation’s footprint and profile.

We’re looking for someone with an open and inclusive leadership style towards our team, making the most of our experienced and driven team leaders too.

You will be fully accountable for the strategic direction, management and impact of all Skills Builder's UK work. Our Founder Tom Ravenscroft, who is moving into the Chair role, will be available to advise where helpful, while also shifting his main focus to a new entity to scale our international work.

We’re looking for an individual with an outstanding track record of leadership and influence, confidence in being able to work across organisational functions and huge ambition for Skills Builder Partnership and its commercial success and social impact. As a collective impact initiative, we are particularly keen to see evidence of strong diplomatic, communication, and negotiation skills.

In return, this role at Skills Builder offers a unique opportunity to have a real and lasting impact on the skills and life opportunities of millions.
