The role of Operations Manager will involve, but is not limited to the following core responsibilities:

Day to day tasks will include:

  • Planning the logistics of camp set-up and communicating this with the rest of the team effectively.
  • Planning the staffing of upcoming camps and communicating this with the rest of the team effectively. This will also include determining third party labour requirements and arranging this, in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Determining guide and vehicle requirements for upcoming trips and camps and making the necessary bookings.
  • Ensuring that all the necessary arrangements have been made for upcoming trips.
  • Briefing guides on guests and itineraries and ensuring they are delivering a level of service consistent with the Hud Hud brand.
  • Managing the camp build and take down on a regular basis and ensuring the build quality is consistently high. This will include organising the timely packing, transporting and building of camps. 
  • Hosting camps as a camp manager on a regular basis and managing the staff working in the camp, ensuring they are well turned out and able to complete their tasks.
  • When hosting camps, speaking to guests and ensuring they understand how the camp works, answering any questions and chatting to them about how they are enjoying their trip. You should be able to speak with authority on Oman, its history, culture etc.
  • Ensuring that a high and consistent quality of service is maintained throughout.
  • Managing and maintaining relationships with third party suppliers.
  • Understanding and managing the costs involved with trip delivery and reviewing these with the accounts manager on a regular basis.

Ongoing tasks will include:

  • Maintaining all equipment, from tents to furniture to linen, and arranging repair and replacement, where necessary, in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Suggesting, developing and implementing improvements to the Hud Hud product and method of delivery.
  • Recruitment and training of new staff.
  • Maintaining and developing new relationships with freelance guides.
  • Staff management. The Hud Hud team is from a diverse set of socio-economic backgrounds and different countries and being able to communicate effectively across certain language barriers and cultural differences is essential.
  • Reviewing staff performance on a regular basis, giving positive feedback and making sure that they have the skills and motivation to complete the tasks assigned to them.

Key skills

The successful candidate will be energetic, positive, work well in a team of diverse nationalities and backgrounds, be able to listen and take advice as well as be ready to impart it and make sensible decisions under pressure.

A valid driving license and appropriate experience as well as being totally fluent in English is a must. Any first aid type of background is a bonus.

Our client profile, simply, is middle aged to elderly, affluent and European (there are of course exceptions). Among our guests are Lords, Counts and Barons, QCs, pop stars, bankers, venture capitalists, surgeons, industrialists. Eloquence and intelligence are paramount in order to instil confidence in guests.

As Hud Hud is a small team, each member will be expected to help out as and when is necessary, in any aspect of the company's running.

Work Times (Start in September)

Work times vary, as is the nature of tourism, but you will be given two days off per week (accrued where it is necessary to work more than 5 days in a row).

We work hard during the season (which runs from September to June) and then provide employees 2 months off, paid, during the summer. One should expect to work public holidays, school holidays and festive periods, as these are tourism’s busiest times.

Salary and benefits

  • Approximately OMR 750 per month, subject to experience and an initial probationary period
  • Shared accommodation – you will have your own bedroom

  • We will pay for a return flight each year, up to a value of OMR 400, subject to the completion of a full season
