Role Summary
- Ownership of financial accounting for Blackbird's funds
- Responsible for financial reporting, bookkeeping and year-end audit completion
- Oversee tax compliance activities and general fund management, including cash management and ensuring compliance with fund documents.

We’re looking to hire a Senior Fund Accountant to join our Funds Finance team on a 12 month contract. You’ll be responsible for owning all deliverables related to the financial accounting for our funds [22 and growing], ably supported by our Fund Accountants Nils Westerbarkei and Aidan Wong, and reporting to Blackbird’s amazing Head of Finance, Rebecca McCallum.
As the most senior member of Blackbird’s Funds Finance team, you will be an individual contributor, and have responsibility for: Financial reporting and bookkeeping in Allvue (our fund administration platform): Reviewing the Funds’ balance sheet reconciliations and quarterly Net Asset Value (NAV) statements. Leading the year-end audit and coordinating the preparation of key deliverables. Reviewing the draft financial statements prepared by the Fund Accountants.
Tax compliance: Overseeing the compilation of information for external tax advisers and managing the process of disseminating tax statements to investors. Reviewing quarterly BAS reports for the Funds. Reviewing the Funds’ tax returns prepared by the external tax advisers.
General Fund management: Cash management including forecasting the Funds’ cash needs for capital calls and determining cash available for distributions where relevant. Ensuring that all capital calls have been received from investors, and all distributions have been successfully paid to investors. Co-ordination of and input into quarterly revaluations process Ensuring expenses charged to the funds comply with fund documents
Investor relations: Answering any queries investors might have on their investment holdings or the Blackbird Funds, including tax compliance and regulatory reporting for our institutional investors. Assisting with the creation of investor materials and reviewing these materials for factual accuracy.
Process improvement: Constantly looking for ways to automate and scale repetitive tasks.

Fund finance knowledge: You have advanced knowledge of all concepts applicable to fund finance including technical fund accounting, investment valuations and revaluations, carried interest, IRR hurdle rates and common fund metrics like TVPI and Net IRR.
Audit co-ordination: You have participated in multiple audit processes including the preparation of financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
Financial reporting: You are well versed in financial reporting such as NAV statements and capital account statements, and can deliver them accurately and in a timely manner, regularly acting as the final reviewer before sending.
Proficiency in the tools of funds finance: You are comfortable working with large sets of data and spreadsheets on a day-to-day basis. You have used at least one fund accounting SaaS tool such as eFront or Allvue.
Communications wizard: You take care to craft impactful verbal and written communications, whether it’s delivered internally or externally.
Ultimate organiser: You can navigate between multiple funds and competing demands by establishing clear project plans, identifying priorities, and executing tasks through to completion.
