What does a Brand and Communications Lead do at Busuu?

The ‘Brand and Communications Lead’ plays a critical role within the business. They oversee the creation of all marketing materials from our in house and agency teams. They are responsible for the operational effectiveness (processes and resourcing) of our in house creative team.

Working in partnership with the Product Marketing Manager, the ‘Brand and Communication Lead’ drives the planning and delivery of all communications for GTM strategies and campaigns.

Responsibilities:

Creative Team resourcing

  • Discovering the future resource needs of the CRM, Growth and B2B teams
  • Managing the scaling up or down of freelancer resource to meet needs of the business, ensuring capacity levels are optimal each month
  • Sourcing the right production partners for projects that require external resources

Operations

  • Create processes for brand control, ensuring all work that leaves the building is on brand, legally compliant, and of the highest quality
  • Regularly audit, design and implement new processes, and documentation to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of our in-house creative team
  • Implement and own campaign calendar for integrated campaigns
  • Ensure legal review is part of the sign off process

Creative Team Trafficking

  • Review all creative briefs to ensure: Quality of direction, that all content is provided, and all channels are accounted for
  • Working with design and copy Leads to prioritise briefs within weekly work-stack

OKR Tracking

  • Monitoring and reporting the output of the creative team versus our OKR targets
  • Defining OKRs each quarter for our in-house creative team

Growth campaigns

  • Working with the Growth team to define campaign plans and briefs (channels, audiences and testing requirements)
  • Define messaging for campaigns
  • Co-develop testing strategies alongside with channel leads
  • Owning the creation process from inception to delivery of assets
  • Managing external agencies

Budget Management

  • Regular updating of forecast to ensure it accurately reflects planned spend
  • Reviewing of external budget proposals
  • Contribution to budget planning for year ahead - scoping planned activity and forecasting required spend to deliver

Departmental Integration

  • Working closely with the Product Marketing Manager to map marketing requirements and timings from a product roadmap
  • Maintaining relationships with work-stream leads to ensure integration of Marketing with other departments

Brand

  • Working with the Product Marketing Manager, research department and copy team to define messaging hierarchy against key customer motivations, geographies, language pairs, channels and stage of the funnel
  • Ensure the brand design system is understood and used by all members of the in-house marketing team
  • Manage any adhoc PR requests

Creative

  • Partner with the Product Marketing Manager and channel leads to define channels, formats and the creative assets needed to deliver our Go To Market plans
  • Work with external agencies and internal teams to establish a new campaign creative, resulting in distinctive and more effective assets
  • Work with design and copy leads to review creative team’s output, ensuring a high level of output on a consistent basis
  • Ensure creative teams attend campaign wash ups to create a culture of testing and learning
